In the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, we have gotten so many of strong and iconic characters that we have come to admired, love, and respected, ever to be created by the amazing author, J.K. Rowling. During the series, we come to meet some of the strongest female characters that Rowling had created and written for the books, and the leading female character was Hermione Granger, whose abilities is having a strong mind and brain, and having to perform some of the amazing and clever spells, whenever it comes to helping her two beloved friends, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Besides Hermione, we also get to meet one of the strongest female characters in history of Harry Potter, and that is the young Ginny Weasley.

What are great words to describe Ginny Weasley? She’s a fighter, a warrior, brave, shy, great Quidditch player, and a strong Weasley.

Of course, you probably best know her, in the entire series, as Ron Weasley’s little sister, a year behind her brother, youngest child and only daughter of Molly and Arthur Weasley, growing up with so many older brothers in the family, such as Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred and George, and Ron, member of Dumbledore’s Army, and also became the love interest for Harry Potter. She has definitely shown her true Gryffindor side, just like her brother, including Harry and Hermione, as Ginny was reaching into her teens and was very determined to fight back against Lord Voldemort and his army of Death Eaters to protect her loving family and her beloved school at Hogwarts. Throughout the series, Ginny Weasley has join in the line as one of the strongest and bravest female characters in Harry Potter, along with Hermione Granger, Luna Lovegood, Professor McGonagall, Molly Weasley (her mother), Cho Chang, and Nymphadora Tonks. She’s a tough girl. A tough Weasley with a spirit of a Gryffindor!

Ginny at age 11 JPEG

Let’s talk about Ginny Weasley: the youngest child, only daughter, and Ron’s sister. She actually did appeared in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, but only just a bit for one scene, in which is the scene where Harry is about to go to Platform 9 3/4, and there he meets the Weasleys for the first time. Mrs. Weasley helps him out to get into Platform 9 3/4. ‘Just walk straight through Platforms 9 and 10′, as Mrs. Weasley instructed Harry, and there little Ginny wishes Harry for good luck. In the films, she was played by Bonnie Wright. Bonnie, as far as any Harry Potter fan, including myself would say, is a great choice to play this role, she’s got great qualities to play this character, even the way Ginny is described in the books, and she is definitely Ginny Weasley by heart. She does appeared again, as a new secondary character in Harry’s second year at Hogwarts in The Chamber of Secrets, ready to start her first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It was during the Burrow scene, which was Harry’s first time visiting Ron’s home, after being rescued from the Dursleys at Privet Drive. And there, Ginny comes downstairs and meets Harry, very shy and timid little girl at age 11, who has a crush on Harry. On the other hand, she did defend Harry, when Draco Malfoy comes into the spotlight, telling him to leave him alone.

“Alright, Potter! You’ve finally got yourself a girlfriend!” Draco Malfoy being a bully, and that’s where we get to meet his father, Lucius Malfoy. Not a very nice man, indeed!

In her first year in Hogwarts, Ginny is sorted into Gryffindor, able to join her older brothers along with the other Gryffindor students. In the middle of J.K. Rowling’s second story, Harry and his friends come to face a message written on the wall, saying that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened, lot of students have been petrified, including Mrs. Norris, Argus Filch’s cat. What’s happening? Who could have done this? Even poor Hermione had gotten petrified, too. With the teachers fearing that the worst has come to Hogwarts, Harry and Ron went out to find some clues to how to find the Chamber of Secrets and stop the madness for spreading into Hogwarts. Later on we find out that Ginny has been taken away, and was sent down to the Chamber of Secrets, nearly dying. Harry goes out to rescue Ginny, and there he comes to face-to-face with Tom Riddle, the keeper of the Riddle diary, revealing himself as Lord Voldemort, as a teenager. Riddle, of course, reveals that he had possessed Ginny to written the warning messages, after finding his diary, and throwing it away into the toilet at the girls’ bathroom. Harry defeats the Basilisk snake, destroys the diary, and Ginny is safe.

She does appear in The Prisoner of Azkaban, in which in the film version, one of her greatest quotes ever to be played by actress Bonnie Wright, at a very young age, is: “The Fat Lady, she’s gone!”

In The Goblet of Fire, during her third year, one of the sweetest moment that Ginny did was having to dance with Neville Longbottom at the Yule Ball. If I remember from reading the novel, I think she only went to the Yule Ball and danced with Neville, because she felt really sorry for him, and that’s definitely a very sweet thing she ever did for Neville.

Later on, in The Order of the Phoenix, Ginny finally shows her true Gryffindor side, as she joins Dumbledore’s Army, a secret organization to be formed by Harry, Ron, and Hermione, in order to learn how to defend themselves against Voldemort and the Death Eaters, located in the Room of Requirements. Her Patronus is a horse. In the novel, Ginny becomes a new Quidditch player, joining along with her brother, Ron, after Professor Umbridge had banned Harry and Fred and George from Quidditch, just for having a fight with Malfoy, after he insulted George and his family, and Harry’s mother for being a muggle-born. This drawing above here was done in watercolor pencils, and that was the very first time of me, not only drawing Ginny as a Quidditch player, but able to do a drawing design for the Quidditch players’ uniforms; for Gryffindor, I added two color combinations of red and gold, with a robe, sweater with a huge ‘H’ standing for Hogwarts, and brown boots.

In The Half-Blood Prince, we get to see Ginny’s relationship with Harry growing more and more, as they started to fall in love. Although she had dated with some previous boys before, such as Michael Corner and Dean Thomas, but her love for Harry became stronger, as it was revealed in the book, that Ginny helped winning the Quidditch cup for the Gryffindors, and Harry was so happy and shockingly, he kisses her. It may sound like Ron was shocked to see his best friend sharing his first kiss with his sister, but in spite with his surprise, he was pretty okay with it. Teenage love ❤

As we get on to the epic conclusion in The Deathly Hallows, we see Ginny wanting to fight and protect Hogwarts, but Mrs. Weasley, as a very loving mother, didn’t want her daughter to fight to get herself killed. In the end, she was able to join with her family to fight in the second war against Voldemort and his army of Death Eaters, in the famous Battle of Hogwarts. Even though Ginny nearly lost her life by Bellatrix Lestrange, but she was saved by her mother, in one of the most greatest scenes in Harry Potter. 19 years later, in the Epilogue, Ginny grows up, as Harry’s married wife and a mother of three children: James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna Potter.

Ginny Weasley

I like Ginny, I think she’s one of J.K. Rowling’s amazing female characters in the series. She was pretty fun and easy to draw, even when I first started to draw my version of the character, as an example here of the first pencil drawing. If you noticed the first picture whenever you reached for this new topic, that is the exact same drawing of this pencil drawing from last year, but just traced it on Autodesk SketchBook and put it in color. What it shows you in this drawing is simply a drawing of Ginny Weasley as a confident 14-year-old girl and a member of Dumbledore’s Army, to show you of her personality as a young Gryffindor.

Down below, you’ll see the full digital drawing, showing you how very brave, strong, and independent Ginny has grown into, and also one of the strongest Weasleys in the family, after her mother Molly, and her brother Ron.

What are your thoughts of Ginny Weasley? Do you think she serves as one of the greater role models for young girls, along with Hermione Granger and Luna Lovegood? What are your favorite Ginny Weasley moments, out of the books to the films? Why do you think she’s a strong Weasley? And why do you think she’s a perfect love interest for Harry? Please leave your comments and share you thoughts.

To me, Ginny’s role as a character is to teach us as girls and women on how to be brave and strong. So I hope you’ll enjoy reading more about the character, and exploring of my fan art drawings of Ginny Weasley. Until next time, take care and be safe.

I feel like Bonnie did a good job with what she was given but the writing of the films did Ginny dirty 😦 She was one of my favorite characters and you don’t really see much of her in the movies.

Yeah, she was great for playing Ginny in the movies, even the way she brings in her personality to bring her character to life. But I think we mostly see more of the other characters, as you read through the original novels by J.K. Rowling.
