Luna Dancing - The Deathly Hallows watercolor

Can you believe that we are getting close to the month of September by next week? How crazy is that! That’s right, we are already in the late-week of August, and pretty soon summer will be flying away till we see it again for next year, for sooner or later we will getting close to the season of fall. When we think of fall, the few list of things that would pop up into our minds are autumn leaves, pumpkins, cooler weather, jeans and long-sleeves shirts, jackets, Halloween, and yes…even pumpkin spice, for those who love anything with pumpkin spice, like for flavored coffees or cakes.

Within that, it’s time for another, new topic for this year’s Watercolor of the Month for August. Before we can begin this topic, I want to make a very special announcement that will be featured on today’s new post: just as now this morning, I have received two new emails for two new followers who have just followed The Autistic Animator’s Desk, and within that, I have now reached up to a total of 95 followers. What an awesome journey has this blog been for nearly two years! It’s amazing that you guys are still enjoying all of things that I’ve been posting for everything that focus on the things I love, such as animation, drawing, painting, and writing. Thank you guys who have been following me for over a year, those who are new followers, and for those who are not followers but just viewers who wanted to check out this blog, for all of your much love and support. Pretty soon, I’ll be reaching up to 100 followers. When that will happen? Maybe by next month or two? Who knows! But it’s been a really great journey for this autistic blogger, and once again, thank you for keeping up your strong support for this blog.

Okay! So let’s get back to the new Watercolor of the Month topic with a watercolor drawing from last year that I’ve picked for this year’s 18th Watercolor of the Month for August is Luna dancing at the wedding scene, taken directly from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This drawing was featured as one of the Luna drawings I picked up from the scene in the original novel by J.K. Rowling, where Luna Lovegood, a Ravenclaw, one of Harry’s friends, and member of Dumbledore’s Army, is one of the guests of the wedding of Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour, along with her father, Xenophilous Lovegood, the editor of the magazine, The Qubblier. There she goes up and starts dancing and waving her arms in a very dreamy way, because she finds the music at the reception very amusing and interesting.

When I was working on the drawing last year, I tried to draw Luna dancing the way she was doing, as how J.K. Rowling wrote it in the book, the way she would dance and waving her arms, while closing her eyes, in a very witty but charming way, even it’s part of Luna’s personality:

“I like this song,” said Luna, swaying in time to the waltz like tune, and a few seconds later she stood up and glided onto the dance floor, where revolved on the spot, quite alone, eyes closed and waving her arms. (Chapter 8: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows)

Of course, the design for Luna’s dress for the wedding scene was also part of the novel, yellow with a sunflower on her hair, but I kinda combined a little bit of the film version of her dress, kinda like how the dress was made for Evanna Lynch, who played Luna in the movies, but instead of robes, I drew a soft, golden-yellow shawl for Luna to wear around her shoulders to look it very flower-like, and I added a little sunflower broach or button to go along with her shawl, and a couple of sunflower hair clips on top of Luna’s hair; one for the left side and one on the back to hold on half a back of her hair. Along with the watercolor drawing, I have a digital drawing version of Luna at the Weasley wedding, but it’s a different scene that I picked up in chapter 8 from the book. It was a scene, where Luna just got bitten by one of the gnomes, feeling very happy and excited, and her dad was looking extremely proud of his only daughter, as he said, “Gnome saliva is enormously beneficial!” That was the first time that I’ve got to draw Luna in the wedding scene, done in Autodesk SketchBook, and the watercolor drawing was the second time that I’ve got to draw Luna at the wedding from picking up one of the scenes in the book.

These drawings were featured from last year’s post, so if you haven’t got the chance to look at the digital drawing, nor reading the post, you can find it, titled ‘Luna at Bill and Fleur’s Wedding (Sunflower Dress) – “The Deathly Hallows”‘. For one cool thing about the previous topic, by August 27th, this Thursday, it will reached for its year anniversary since I’ve published it here on The Autistic Animator’s Desk. I think it’s neat that, with this watercolor version of Luna at the wedding, has been chosen to be the new 18th Watercolor of the Month drawing for August, and soon the drawing and post will be reaching for its year anniversary.

So, I hope you’ll enjoy reading this new topic for the 18th Watercolor of the Month for August this year, as well as viewing of my own watercolor fan art of Luna Lovegood dancing at the wedding, that I’ve picked up from The Deathly Hallows. Hope you all had a great summer this year, even when we are still in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, but don’t worry, things will get better!

With summer almost over, what is it that you are mostly excited about fall? Is it the cool weather? Autumn leaves? Pumpkins? Pumpkin spice flavored coffees and/or cakes? Long-sleeves shirts and jeans? Halloween? Decorating for holidays? Share your comments down below.

Take care! 🙂
